Cleft : Operation for Improving the Look of Nose & Central Face

The nose of the cleft patient is not normal. Some of the deformity is corrected when the lip is repaired. However the child requires surgery for correcting the nose deformity. This is generally done either at the age of 5 years or when the child reaches the age of 14 - 15 years.

Because of the cleft palate and because of the operations for it, the central part of the face, that is the nose and the upper jaw. To correct this deformity the child has to undergo orthodontic treatment followed an operation done by craniofacial plastic surgeon. In this operation the upper jaw is moved forward and if required the nose is also corrected simultaneously. This operation is generally done at the age of 15- 17 years.
