Cleft : The Problem of Ear & Operation to Correct it

As explained earlier, the small muscle that connects the ear tube and the palate, is responsible for removal of fluid from the middle ear cavity in the skull. In patients with the clefts it is very important to carry out monthly ear check up till the child reaches about 3 years of age or the palate is repaired. Whenever the ear is affected the ENT surgeon inserts a tube known as grommet, in the ear to drain the ear cavity.
